Villa Park Bike & Pedestrian Trails

Spanning 52 miles combined, the Illinois Prairie Path and the Great Western Trail are considered the spine of DuPage County's trail network. Forty miles of trails comprise the DuPage section of the Prairie Path, which is located along the right-of-way of the former Chicago, Aurora, and Elgin Railway. The Great Western Trail is located along the twelve miles of right-of-way that formerly belonged to the Chicago and Great Western Railroad. Representing some of the most celebrated rails-to-trails paths in the United States, both trails are located squarely in the heart of Villa Park.

Together, the Illinois Prairie Path and Great Western Trail provide vital connections for residents and businesses throughout the Village. Its beltways of parks are hosts to some of the Village’s most defining recreational attractions and historical buildings. Being amenities of cultural and economic significance, the regional trails are celebrated for far more than their functions as non-motorized transportation facilities. For these reasons, the Prairie Path and Great Western Trail are vital cornerstones to the successful implementation of Villa Park’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan.
